The impi uses full GPS navigation, however important turns might still be marked ensuring everyone gets to the finish safely. It has proved to be the way forward from an environmental and sense of adventure point of view and it is very simple too!
Impi GPS Regulations:
- We are allowing only one GPS to be mounted on your bike a spare can be kept in your back pack.
- Regulations on zooming in will be monitored and regulated at 80-120m.
The reason behind this is to avoid cheating and to prevent people taking short cuts. By doing this we hope to make the event fair and hassle free for all competitors.
There are two ways to upload routes to your device:
- Download tracks from our website and use Map source or Easy GPS program to send it to your GPS
- Copy and paste it onto your GPS, where your tracks are saved.
The tracks will be available at registration, but we prefer that all tracks are downloaded before as it is time consuming to do it on race day. If tracks are to be downloaded on the day please ensure that your GPS is formatted beforehand, so that there is enough memory on the device. Please bring your own cable.
When will we receive the route files to upload to our GPS devices?
The GPS files will become available on our website closer to the event, usually a week or two before. These files will also be available at registration. Try not to wait until registration to upload.
How do we upload these files?
The file will be in GPX file format - each device has its own software or online offering, which you will need to be familiar with in order to upload from your computer. Your device will come with all that information.
Will I have enough battery life?
If you are concerned about your GPS please take spare battries.
What is stopping me from taking a wrong route?
There will be marshals at the refuels as well as on the track that can direct riders.
Can I ride the routes outside of the event?
No, unfortunately not. Most of our route is through private land and farmers will treat any other riders on their land as trespassers, this will jeopardise any future events.
